Pink & Black Checkered Boxes in Game Where Textures Should Be

This article is for resource packs for Java Edition and Bedrock versions of Minecraft.

When textures from resource packs are unable to load, the game replaces it with pink and black checkered boxes. This occurs when the textures are not in the game’s assigned directory folder or did not download correctly.

To restore textures, you will need to delete and redownload your textures using the instructions below.

In Java:

  • Go to .minecraft > Resource Packs folder
    • This folder can easily be found by launching the game, selecting Options, Resource Packs, and Open Resource Pack Folder
  • Delete all textures from this folder
  • Redownload textures to this folder

In Bedrock:

  • Go to Settings > Storage
  • Delete all textures from this folder
  • Redownload textures to this folder

If this did not solve your issue, return to Minecraft Troubleshooting here.
