Error Code Troubleshooting

This article will focus on troubleshooting steps that you can take when encountering various error codes while playing the Bedrock versions of Minecraft.

Common Error Codes


An account provider could not be found.

  • Ensure the “Xbox App” is installed, which you can find here or by searching for “Xbox” in your platform’s store app or in the Microsoft store.


Minecraft could not reach the authentication servers, or the connection has timed out. This may be caused by a temporary service outage or issues with your game or internet connection. 

  • If an outage has been reported, please wait until the outage has been resolved and try again later.
  • If no outage has been reported, please follow the general troubleshooting steps below.


You may have a ban on the account.


A network issue has prevented your sign-in.

  • Make sure that your connection is stable and check that it is configured properly.


A client error occurred during sign-in.

  • Try restarting the game and/or letting it idle for a couple of minutes before trying again.


This means you’ve encountered an unknown error during sign-in.

  • Please fully close Minecraft, reset your device, and attempt to log in again.


Conflicting credentials cache.

  • On Windows and Xbox, try signing out of Xbox Live, and back in again.
  • On Switch, try the "Clear Account Credentials" button in Settings->Profile.


could not authenticate with all services.

  • Try restarting the game or waiting for services to resolve their issues and try again.


This indicates an issue with Xbox authorization.

  • Please make sure the Xbox app is up to date and try signing out, then signing back in.


process thinks there are too many users.

  • Restart the game to reset this.


This means you’ve encountered an unknown client error during sign-in.

  • Please fully close Minecraft, reset your device, and attempt to log in again.

Sugar Cane:

The wrong Microsoft/Xbox account is being used to sign into the current PlayStation Network account.

  • The PlayStation and Microsoft account link is permanent and cannot be associated with other accounts. For more information, please see our FAQ: Minecraft for PlayStation®


An unspecified error has occurred.

Marketplace Errors starting with L-, D-, S- or P-

These errors are specific to the Marketplace. We advise you to try again later. At Minecraft, we have dashboards which we are monitoring to understand when these errors occur, so we can make improvements over time for all players and platforms.

Note: If you're experiencing a different error code than those listed above, please follow the general troubleshooting steps below to resolve errors such as:

  • Cake
  • Magma Block
  • Mycelium
  • Observer
  • Prismarine
  • Soul Sand
  • Wither Rose

You can also check out our Bug Reports to see if any additional solutions or workarounds have been discovered for any error codes that you encounter.

General Error Code Troubleshooting

Always make sure that your game is up to date and running the latest version of Minecraft.

Additionally, please confirm that your Minecraft account is attached to a Microsoft account. You can check this by going to the main menu, then clicking the sign-in button at the bottom right.

After verifying the above, please complete these troubleshooting steps:

  • Check your internet and ensure your device's connection is stable and strong.
  • If your issues are caused by the internet connection, you may need to reach out to your Internet Service Provider and/or complete separate troubleshooting steps.
  • Sign out of all Minecraft accounts (including the attached Microsoft account) and close out any open Minecraft application.
  • Restart the game, then sign back into the Minecraft and Microsoft account(s)
  • If you still see the error: repeat the steps above after waiting 1 hour, including internet troubleshooting steps.

Additional steps if you're playing on a Windows, Android, Xbox, or iOS device:

  • Make sure you're logging in with the right Microsoft account.
  • Install the "Xbox App", which you can find by searching for "Xbox" in your platform's store app or in the Microsoft Store.

If you find the issue persists after this point, we have a few additional suggestions that may assist with resolving the problem. Please read our guidance carefully and only proceed with the steps you are comfortable processing.  

Further Troubleshooting Suggestions

Uninstall and Reinstall Minecraft 

  1. Refer to your device support site for guidance on uninstalling and reinstalling purchased applications. 
  2. DISCLAIMER: This will delete your local saves, so please back up any files you wish to keep. If you need assistance, see Backing up Minecraft Worlds.

Device Troubleshooting 

  1. Your gaming device may be contributing to this issue. We recommend performing a full restart and investigating any pending system updates. This may assist with resolving the errors you are seeing.  
  2. Again, please make sure you back up any files that you wish to keep and refer to the platform's guidance for successfully restarting your device. 

Please also check our bug reports for similar issues or submit your own so that a developer can take a look.

If you're still experiencing an error code, contact Minecraft Support and provide a picture of any error messages that you see, along with any additional details about your issue. For our team to be able to review these images, please make sure they are in PNG or JPEG file formats only.
