Minecraft Bedrock Installation Issues FAQ

What are the device requirements to run Bedrock versions of Minecraft?  

Minecraft is playable on multiple platforms, each with its own version and device requirements. This article explains the different versions of Minecraft, the devices that they can be played on, any restrictions for those platforms, and where to download and get installation instructions.   

Android Devices   

Minecraft for Android devices can be downloaded and purchased from the Play Store. Follow the download and install instructions provided there. 

  • Download and installation size varies by device 
  • Access the list of accounts in the Accounts Service   
  • Read from external storage   
  • Minimum Operating System: Android 6 "Marshmallow" 
  • RAM: more than 1 GB
  • Android devices are cross-platform compatible   

iOS/iPadOS Devices   

Minecraft for iOS/iPadOS can be downloaded and purchased from the App Store. Follow the download and install instructions provided there.   

  • Size: 895.3 MB   
  • Requires iOS/iPadOS 10 or later
  • Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch 

Nintendo   

Minecraft for Nintendo Switch can be downloaded and purchased from the Nintendo eShop. Follow the download and install instructions provided there. 

  • Game file size: 1.2 GB   
  • Supported Play Modes: TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode   

PlayStation®   

Minecraft for PlayStation® can be downloaded and purchased from the PlayStation® Store on PS4

 and PS5™. PS Plus is required for online play. Follow the download instructions on the website.  

You can play Minecraft for PlayStation® on the following consoles:  

  • PS4™
  • PS4 Pro 
  • PS5™
  • PlayStation® VR  

Minecraft for Windows   

Minecraft for Windows can be downloaded and purchased from The Microsoft Store online and on Windows 10 and above computers, and Minecraft.net. Follow the download instructions on the website where purchased.

  • OS: Windows 10 version 17134.0 or higher   
  • ARCHITECTURE: ARM, x64, x86  
  • RAM: 4 GB   
  • CPU: Intel Celeron J4105 | AMD FX-4100  
  • VIDEO CARD: Intel HD Graphics 4000 | AMD Radeon R5  
  • DIRECTX: DirectX12FL11  

Recommended Requirements   

  • OS: Windows 10 version 17134.0 or higher   
  • ARCHITECTURE: ARM, x64, x86  
  • RAM: 8 GB  
  • CPU: Intel i7-6500U | AMD A8-6600K   
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940M | AMD Radeon HD 8570D  

Xbox   

Minecraft for Xbox can be purchased and downloaded on the Xbox website through Xbox Game Pass, on the Xbox One or at The Microsoft Store. Follow directions on the site for download and installation. 

You can play Minecraft for Xbox One on the following Xbox consoles:   

  • Xbox One  
  • Xbox One S  
  • Xbox One X  
  • Xbox Series S 
  • Xbox Series X     

How to Manually Update Minecraft  

To play the newest content in Minecraft, your game needs to be updated to the most recent version. This should happen automatically while your device is in standby mode or in use while connected to an active Internet connection. However, if you need to manually update your game, you’ll find the instructions for your Minecraft version listed below.   

How do I find my current version number? 

Find the version number on the bottom right of the Minecraft home screen.  

iOS/Android 

  1. Open App Store or Google Play on your device 
  2. Search for “Minecraft”.  

If you own Minecraft already you should be prompted to update Minecraft if it isn’t already updated. If you have the latest version installed press Open and play.  

PlayStation® 

Minecraft for PS™ should update automatically. If updates are not set to automatic on your PS™: 

  1. Find the game 
  2. Select the Options button 
  3. Select Check for Updates. 

Windows 10 and above  

Minecraft for Windows should update to the latest version automatically. If it doesn’t update:  

  1. Open the Microsoft Store,  
  2. Click the three dots in the top right corner 
  3. Click Downloads and updates. 
  4. Click Get updates 

All of your installed applications should update (including Minecraft).  

Xbox 

  1. Go to My Apps & Games, 
  2. Select Minecraft 
  3. Select More Options 
  4. Select Manage game & add-ons 
  5. Select Updates  

Any updates will be available here. If no updates are available here, your game is fully updated!  

Uninstall Bedrock Versions of Minecraft 

We're sorry to see you go, but we understand that sometimes you need to uninstall the game. We hope it’s to install a different version or to install on a different platform! Here's what you need to know to uninstall Minecraft. 

Mobile devices 

The Minecraft application is uninstalled the same way as other applications on your device.  

Console 

You can usually uninstall through your console’s settings. If you need help, please contact your console’s support team: Xbox, PlayStation®, or Nintendo. 

Minecraft for Windows 

To uninstall Minecraft for Windows: 

  1. Select the Windows icon (bottom-left corner) 
  2. Search for Minecraft 
  3. Right-click the icon 
  4. Select uninstall
